Supplemental Digital Tools - Important Information - ACTION NEEDED

Dear Families,

In an effort to continue expanding our authorized set of digital tools for instruction, HCPSS has curated a new set of supplemental digital tools that are available only through Google’s menu of additional services. HCPSS is committed to leveraging technology in ways that ensure all students have access and opportunity to communicate, collaborate, create, and innovate safely and responsibly anywhere, anytime in support of learning. These supplemental digital tools are approved by HCPSS and comply with federal, state and Howard County Board of Education student data privacy policies. Due to Google’s settings, students must access this set of tools by utilizing Google’s menu of additional services, which requires consent by a parent or guardian.  Please visit our website to provide the required parental consent.

Delegate for the Student Member of the Board

Are you passionate about student leadership? Are you someone who wants to voice your opinions and make a difference? Do you want to be a part of making history? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are the right person to step up for the Student Delegate leadership opportunity.
This year, we are again offering the Student Member Convention. SMOB serves alongside adult members of the Board of Education and advocates for the voice of the students. Your voice is needed!  Each middle and high school will select student delegates to attend the convention. Candidates, who best amplify the voice of the students, will be selected to run for Student Member of the Board of Education.

All interested students must complete an application and ask two teachers to complete an evaluation form as part of the application package. All parts of the application are due February 4, 2022. (Interviews will take place the week of February 7).
Applications are located online through the Student Member of the Board Convention Portal. You can find the portal here. In this portal, you will find a timeline, the requirements for participating, and a link to our school’s application form and teacher evaluation tool. Make sure to check out the SMOB and Student Delegate applications information, and updates that can be found on HCASC’s Instagram and website.

HC DrugFree Updates:

FREE Parenting Classes: Raising preteens and teens is tough. Wouldn’t it be great if adults could take a class that taught us how to help our kids avoid risky behaviors, all while learning how to say no to drugs and alcohol? There is! Guiding Good Choices is an evidence-based, interactive prevention program that provides families with the skills and knowledge to reduce the risk that their children will use drugs and alcohol or engage in other dangerous behaviors. HC DrugFree is pleased to present this popular parenting class for Howard County parents, guardians, and grandparents starting February 2. This program will meet via Zoom for 5 classes (February 2, 9, 16, 23, and March 2) from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Adults should plan to attend all 5 sessions. Topics include How to Prevent Drug Use in Your Family, How to Develop Healthy Beliefs and Clear Standards, Avoiding Trouble: How to Say No to Drugs, Managing Conflict: How to Control and Express Your Anger Constructively, and How to Strengthening Family Bonds.  The class is free, but registration is required :  www.surveymonkey.com/r/GGCFebMar2022 For more information: Email Parenting@HCDrugFree.org, visit www.hcdrugfree.org or view downloadable flier
