I Love Lime Kiln Day

What is it?

I Love Lime Kiln Day is a special day to celebrate the diversity that exists within our community.  It is meant to deepen social awareness and understanding by celebrating the uniqueness of our students and families.  With this celebration, we are unified by pride in our varied heritage, culture, and traditions.

When is it?

The event will be hosted both during school and after school on 4/12/2024..  Students will have an opportunity to engage in various cultural activities throughout the day.  After school, families will showcase aspects of their heritage, culture, and traditions.  This may include food, dance, music, information boards, and interactive activities.  The after school activities will occur from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.  Students and their families are encouraged to participate in the event.

Families, we need YOU!

In order to make this event a success, we need your help.  We will have tables available to display artifacts, information boards, foods, and more.  We would love to showcase talents that teach us more about your culture, heritage, and traditions.  If you play instruments, dance, share spoken word, or wish to share a different form of expression, we want to see and hear it.  If you wish to share your favorite foods and recipes, you will be able to do that as well.  We will be compiling recipes that you share to create a Community Cultural Cookbook that will be shared with our community.

Here are ways you can participate:

  • Present artifacts and information boards

  • Share recipes and foods

  • Perform songs, dances, poetry readings, martial arts, etc

  • Run an activity station (cultural games, art projects, etc.)

  • Volunteer to help during the day or after school (set-up, replenish supplies during the event, run a station, or break-down)

If you are interested in taking part as a presenter/performer, please complete the sign-up link by April 4th.

Food and culture share a deep and intricate connection, forming a symbiotic relationship that reflects the diversity and identity of societies around the world. Culinary traditions, cooking techniques, and eating habits are integral components of cultural heritage, passed down through generations and shaped by historical, geographical, and social factors. Food plays a central role in social gatherings and rituals, fostering a sense of community and strengthening interpersonal bonds. Shared meals offer opportunities for storytelling, celebration, and creating a sense of belonging among individuals. Thank you for sharing a recipe for our LKMS cookbook.

The Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA)

The Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA) is a science assessment for 8th grade students. This assessment provides educators, parents, and the public with information on student progress towards science literacy.

At Lime Kiln Middle School ,  MISA has been scheduled for March 4-8 during science periods.

It is essential all students come to school on time on testing days and we ask that you not schedule appointments or early dismissals on testing days. Additionally, students should bring their charged Chromebook and charger to use during testing. Students should continue to bring all classroom materials.

Personal electronic devices (cell phones, earbuds, ipads, smart watches, etc.) are not permitted in the testing areas.
